Replica Aircraft

Manufactured using precision moulds taken from existing aircraft, or from the manufacturer’s original plans and blueprints, Gateguards (UK) Ltd can create replicas of aircraft, vehicles or other subjects to any of a wide range of specifications and finishes, for collectors, museums, historians and the film industry.

Any subject is possible, and nothing pleases us more than the challenge of bringing back to life an historic airframe, for the viewing pleasure of the client and the public. Our gallery includes photos of many of our completed replicas.

Much of the work we undertake is bespoke, but to receive an indication of the alternatives available please read the descriptions below.

Option 1. Budget Silhouette – To help our customers afford a beautiful and accurate replica aircraft, where finer ancillary details and internal features are not needed, Gateguards (UK) Ltd now offers the Budget Silhouette option for 3 famous aircraft replicas. Fabricated using the same precision moulds as our more highly specified replicas, these are constructed around a simplified steel internal frame. The canopy is sealed and is either clear or frosted (as required), cockpit and other internal area detail is absent, undercarriage is in the stowed configuration, and the replica is completed in primer finish all aircraft can be catered for , price depends on size and complexity:-

Option 2. Silhouette – The full, perfectly reproduced replica airframe, fabricated around a steel/aluminium trellis “spaceframe”, with internal bulkhead structure that closely follows the original aircraft construction. The advantage of this construction method is that the completed replica is fully supported from within, considerably reducing the risk of structural damage from the stresses of wind, weather or moving the exhibit. The cockpit is sealed, the cockpit bulkheads and floor are accurately re-created, and “silhouette” equipment is installed (eg: gunsight, back and head rests, top of instrument panel). All aerials, vents, grills, chutes, scoops and other surface equipment and features are accurately reproduced. Full extended and detailed replica undercarriage with authentic rubber tyres is included if required, or a bespoke pylon-mounting system is fabricated where needed. The replica is finished in the colour scheme and markings of your choice, in 10 year guaranteed exterior 2-pac acrylic paint. Option 2. price is dependent on specification, and is available on application.

Option 3. Full replica - Barely distinguishable from the real thing until you actually rap your knuckles on the wing, this option includes fully detailed replica cockpit, with opening canopy, harnesses and radio aerials. All control surfaces are “separated” from the wings/tailplane/rudder for a subtle realism “boost”. The client can also choose from a variety of specifications additional features, including:

- Working navigation, position and/or landing lights

- Opening service panels for engine, gun and equipment bays, with replica contents

- Control surfaces articulated and connected to move with the flight controls

- "Gas guns" to represent firing the original armament, with full-scale sound and flash (very convincing!).

- Power installation for rotating propeller(s)

- “Public-friendly” cockpit interior, for photo opportunities, educational purposes, etc..
